Today”s Daily Prompt: Seat Guru
You get to plan a dinner party for 4-8 of your favorite writers/artists/musicians/other notable figures, whether dead or alive. Who do you seat next to whom in order to inspire the most fun evening?
The first person on my list, and the most important to me, is my favorite author, Karin Slaughter. I would love to have a one-on-one lunch/dinner/meeting where I can just pick her brain and ask her a million questions. She is an amazing writer and would definitely be a wealth of knowledge for an aspiring writer like me.
Thinking about the other people, a bunch of people pop into my mind, but I think the people I would invite are: William Shakespeare, Chris Brown (Trapt), Sandra Bullock, Oda Nobunaga, Stan Lee and Freddie Mercury.
Now, we want to have fun, right? So if I had to think of a seating arrangement, it would go like this.
Obviously Nobunaga would sit next to me, probably on my right (because it’s more natural and easy for me to turn to my right to have a conversation) so that he doesn’t feel left out being the only non-English speaker.
I would be at one end of the table, and directly opposite me, on the other end, I would seat Shakespeare. That way we could communicate across the table, but also so that he can interact freely with everyone seated at the table as well. I feel many of the people at the dinner party would want to talk to him since he inspired so many things in modern society.
On Nobunaga’s right I would seat Stan Lee and then on Stan Lee’s right would be Sandra Bullock. I want Stan Lee next to Nobunaga because Lee seems like a very laid-back and chill dude. I’d like to imagine he might even find Nobunaga’s apperance and manners very inspiring. I think he would get the most appreciation from sitting next to him. And then since there aren’t as many females as there are males, I want to put Sandra next to Stan Lee to try and keep it a bit even. She also seems very cultured and sophisticated, so I think she would greatly enjoy a conversation with Shakespeare.
On my immediate left I would put Chris Brown. I enjoy his voice, and would probably ask him to sing to me at some point during the night. The Trapt song, ‘Only One in Color’ is my all-time favorite and I could die happy if I heard him sing it. Next to him, directly across from Stan Lee, has to be Freddie Mercury. I want him to be in a central spot so that anyone who wants to engage with him can. He is very inspiring and I want him decently close so I can still ask him questions. On his left would be Karin Slaughter. I want her next to Shakespeare because, well, authors with authors, but also because I feel like in this position she could ask great questions to both Shakespeare and Mercury. It would be a bit difficult for us to talk to one another, due to table placement, but we could make it work.
This party would probably last all night. It would be a bit difficult at first to get everyone used to one another (especially those resurrected from the dead for one meal) but I think once we really get into the meal and discussions, we would never want to stop. I would also bust out board games once we were finished to really have a good time… maybe some Apples to Apples or Cards Against Humanity. I think it would be fun for those who have passed to see cards with their names on it.
Now I want to have a dinner party!!!
